BIOGRAPHY : British born Phil Wilson has dedicated his life to his craft as a musician. Taking up drums at age of ten, since then has spent the past 17 years studying with and playing alongside world renowned players. Gaining his National Diploma in Music from the Sam Newsom Music Centre with tutorial support from Ray Fenwick (Spencer Davis Group, Ian Gillian Band), Phil has gone on to study with British Blues Award Winning Drummer Wayne Proctor (King King, Oli Brown, Aynsley Lister, Ian Parker) and Dave Raeburn (The Hoax).
At the age of 18 Phil joined guitarist singer songwriter Scott McKeon, represented by Paul Crockford (Mark Knophler). Touring and recording with Scott, Phil played on the acclaimed ‘Trouble’ album which led to great success. Touring extensively throughout Europe and the UK and sharing performance space with Eric Clapton, BB King, Jonny Winter, Joss Stone and Joe Bonamassa. Working with Scott McKeon allowed Phil to play some of the worlds most celebrated festivals and stages including: The Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury and the Cornbury Festival (UK), Montreal Jazz Festival, Mont Tremblant Festival (Canada) and The Paradiso (Amsterdam). Whilst touring with Scott McKeon, Phil was lucky enough to open for his musical heroes including Derek Trucks and Arc Angels.
As well as working alongside acclaimed artists, Phil’s exciting presence, tone and groove behind the drum kit was the driving force behind his own musical venture with the band Djune. The band saw success supporting the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Athlete, British Sea Power, Pigeon Detective and the Kooks. Following Djune, Phil’s career took him to working in America with Los Angeles based band ‘Well Hung Heart’. Working in America, Phil drummed on the bands two critically acclaimed albums (Go Forth and Young Enough to Know it all) and toured these in several of America’s most iconic venues such as the Viper Rooms and House of Blues. On return to the UK, Phil took his hand to production (Sean Webster, Black Circles and Infamous Vampires).
Most recently and most excitingly, Phil is currently working with British Blues Award Winning Artist Lawrence Jones (Young Artist of the Year 2014, 2015 and 2016). Joining Laurence Jones in early 2016 Phil has played on the forthcoming album ‘Take Me High’ which charted in the UK top 40 album chart. As well as studio time, working with Laurence Jones comes with an active tour schedule for Phil, touring extensively throughout the UK and Europe, as well as playing the legendary Lead Belly Festival at Carnegie Hall (New York).
Other Sessions Phil has been involved in: Carly Connor, Robbie Mcintosh, Doyle Bramhall Jnr, Jesse Davey, The Hoax and Wilson T King.
