BIOGRAPHY : Starting at the age of 9, Matt’s aptitude for his chosen instrument was immediate. Finding inspiration in the likes Earl Palmer and Stevie Wonder as well as Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, Mitch Mitchell and John Bonham, his style would grow into a rare balance of pocket groove, Power, feel, subtly and a flare from the frenetic, learning the likes of ‘The Mule’ ‘Manic Depression’ ‘ Stargazer’ and ‘Sir Duke’ by ear.

From His early teens, the formal training received in R’N’B, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Afro Cuban, Fusion and Latin and the obligatory Rock held him in good stead, honing his chops and gaining REAL experience from hitting Blues, Rock and Soul jam sessions around London and the South East.

By his late teens, these attention grabbing performances would later peak the interests of several individuals, leading to small national tours with Punk, Soul and Gothic outfits. Interest would continue to build, leading to his first European session tour with UK AOR magnates, PRIDE. His powerful performances earning him the moniker ‘The Beast from the South-East’ from one music journalist.

By his early 20’s the demand for his abilities in Pop and Rock not only allowed him the privilege of working with world famous producers such as Andy Sneap (Slipknot, Trivium,) , Ray Staff ( Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple) and the Grammy nominated Chris Tsangerides ( Judas Priest, Gillan, Black Sabbath, Anvil), but also earned him the opportunity of live sessions for artists on Roadrunner Records, Century Media, Earache Records Spinefarm/ Universal Music, Cleopatra and Revolver Records and live sessions for Radio One at the hallowed Maida Vale studios.  Matt would also find himself touring  and sharing stages throughout Europe and the United States with acts such as Exodus, 3 Inches Of Blood, Sepultura, PRIDE, Freak Kitchen, Mystic Prophecy, Tayo.K, Hatesphere, Stratovarious, Tyketto, Sirenia, Watch Tower, Debbie Bonham (sister of John) Shadows Fall, Firehouse, The Haunted, Epica, Nevermore, Saosin, Biomechanical, Furyon, Devildriver, Tarja, Napalm Death, Katatonia, Firehouse, Nightwish, Paradise Lost and Saxon to mention a few.

A confident music reader and well versed in many styles, far from just ‘a beast’, other sessions which highlight his versatility include Performing Rights Society (PRS) functions and showcases backing numerous Soul, R’N’B and pop artists as well as being asked to teach several guest classes at the esteemed Brighton Institute of Modern music (BIMM).

With his musical roots lying in Motown and the Rhythm and Blues based rock of the late 60s and 70s, Matt’s approach to the song as a drummer is a complimentary one. Whether laying down light grooves, ambient percussion, or hitting of 1000 bpm on this kicks (if needed) he plays for the song. Whether less is more or more needs more, Matt is happy to oblige.
